Saint -Gobain Gyproc opens their first plasterboard plant in the Middle East 

Yesterday (28th April 2010) Saint-Gobain Gyproc and distinguished guests who included, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Claude Imauven, President of Saint-Gobain Construction Products, celebrated the opening of their new plasterboard manufacturing facility in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).

The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind for the French company and local partner Sultan International Holdings, in the Gulf region and represents an investment of over US$60 million. The company will be able to produce around 30 million square metres of plasterboard each year, from the 70-hectare site, servicing the ever growing demand for lightweight building systems for the construction sector in the region.

Craig Chambers, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain Gyproc in the Middle East said, ‘the opening of our new factory today demonstrates our commitment to the region. There are many exciting developments in the Middle East and we will now be better placed to service the needs of our customers through local production.’

Over 100 guests attended the event which involved an insightful tour around the new factory followed by a celebration lunch at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel.
