As part of its efforts to bolster safety of industrial plants and workers in the emirate, Abu Dhabi's Higher Corporation for Specialized Economic Zones (ZonesCorp) in cooperation with Civil Defence Department conducted a fire drill to practice methods to extinguish fires at a paper factory.
With emergency plans already in place, ZonesCorp which is responsible for the industrial health safety and environment (HSE) in Abu Dhabi has carried out the drill at Abu Dhabi National Paper Mill factory to measure the its preparations and ability to deal with fires and other emergencies.
The pre-planned fire broke out as a result of high temperature and sparks flying to solid fibres in the mill. When HSE officials realized that the fire went out of control, alarms were sounded and the premises were evacuated before civil defence teams rushed to the scene.
